Intro
Join us on 8 November 2024 for the first of our Friday night events as we venture into Mulligan's Flat Nature Reserve, one of the best protected areas in Canberra. A professional guide who was the former head ranger of the ACT Parks and Conservation Service will lead us on a night time spotlight tour of the reserve and reveal the secrets of Mulligan's Flat and her tenants.
The main event will occur after our dinner in Forde and will be a guided tour of the Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve with our very own professional guide. We will wander the grassy woodlands of the nature reserve as it comes to life with nocturnal animals like the Eastern Bettong and sugar gliders foraging for food. We should also see kangaroos and wallabies in their natural environment.
The tour will commence after dark at approximately 8pm with everyone asked to gather next to the front entrance of the Wildbark Visitor Centre at 25 Rosenberg Street, Throsby at 7.45pm.
Those wishing to have dinner before the tour, tables are booked for 6.30pm at Frankies at Forde, a licenced local restaurant with a varied menu at the Forde Shops. It will be a short drive from Frankies to the reserve after dinner.
This tour is suitable for all ages however please be aware this is a walking tour along bush tracks and fire trails. You can anticipate the tour will run for about two hours during which you may walk a long distance and should therefore have a reasonable level of fitness.
What to bring: coats and warm clothes as the night is likely to be chilly;
- good walking shoes;
- wet weather gear if rain is forecast; and
- a torch!
