Intro
Join us on 18 July 2025 for a Friday night event as we venture into Mulligan's Flat Nature Reserve behind the Gungahlin suburb of Throsby after our dinner in the Gungahlin suburb of Crace. The Reserve is one of the best protected areas in Canberra for native wildlife.
A professional guide, who was the former head ranger of the ACT Parks and Conservation Service, will lead us on a nighttime spotlight tour of the reserve and reveal the secrets of Mulligan's Flat and its tenants. We will wander the grassy woodlands of the nature reserve as it comes to life with nocturnal animals like the Eastern Bettong and sugar gliders foraging for food. We should also see kangaroos and wallabies in their natural environment.
The tour will commence after dark at approximately 7pm with everyone asked to gather next to the front entrance of the Wildbark Visitor Centre at 25 Rosenberg Street, Throsby at 6.45pm.
Fot those wishing to join us for dinner before the tour, tables will be booked for 5.30pm at The District Bar & Restaurant in the Crace local shops. It's a short 10-minute drive from The District to Wildbark and there is ample parking at both venues.
This tour is suitable for all ages. However, please be aware this is a walking tour along bush tracks and fire trails. You can anticipate the tour will run for about two hours during which you may walk a long distance and should therefore have a reasonable level of fitness and be comfortable with walking.
What to bring:
- coats and warm clothes as the night is likely to be chilly;
- good walking shoes;
- wet weather gear in case of rain;
- walking poles if you have them; and
- a torch
