Alice Springs AGM Meetup - August 2018
Red Centre Tesla / EV Meetup - August 18-19, 2018
Update 29/7/18 in red
Let's show what our Teslas can do! All Electric Vehicles welcome!
- Fantastic drive to Alice Springs
- Only 3 days from Adelaide via Port Augusta (based on S75)
- 7 days from Brisbane via Mount Isa, giving you the option of a loop
- As little as 6 days off work if you do a driver swap-over!
- We can help organise co-drivers, swap-overs and sub convoys - whatever is needed.
- Can help organise drivers to Port Augusta to trim time further
- Meetup and display, including local EV'ers
- Henley on Todd Regatta on Sat. We are all in the parade and one car at the event itself.
- TOCA AGM on Sun
- Interesting side trip options including Uluru, Kings Canyon, Simpsons Gap
- Charging well understood and will improve even further
- Let's get Teslas represented from every state and territory (making it a first)!
See also: Charging Options Spreadsheet
We are keen to attract Teslas and other electric vehicles from every state and territory, and as many Alice Springs local EV’s as possible. If you are keen to come and but are not a TOCA member, no problem (apart from the AGM itself) !
Minimum time commitment is 6 working days (but nicer to take more) from the East Coast if you do a swap-over trip, which is probably less than you thought !
Two weeks allows for the drive in and a week sightseeing (swap car back). Three weeks allows for a week’s sightseeing and the drive both ways !
This document will be continually updated. There will be no final version !
Register your interest here now, even if you are not 100% definite, so we can organise charging, co-drivers, convoys, swap-overs and resolve questions and issues of all types.

DRIVING CONDITIONS
Road conditions are excellent all the way to Alice from North, South, East and West.
This is the typical highway standard from all directions
- Wildlife on the road is not that common during the day, but never drive after dark
- Road trains are never over 4 trailers long and are easy to overtake given the low traffic volumes.
- Not everybody takes a spare tyre, but you might want to think about it, especially as Teslas take a fairly unusual size tyre. Blocks are useful as Tesla hoist pads are small and rectangular, and the large round ones in most workshops can overlap and damage the battery.
Other things to think of
- Sat phone (rent from https://www.satphonesales.com.au/ ) if you want a bit more control if things go off the rails.
- Tesla makes great rubber floor mats.
Car wash
- Non contact auto and manual wash - Easy Car Wash, 8 Gap Rd, Alice Springs
CHARGING
The route from SA is passable by a S75D (Darryl from last year). 3 phase now available at Pimba, Glendambo, Marla.
The Qld route will require a bit of slower driving on the 347 km Winton to Cloncurry section.
Lots of details and options including adapters HERE ON THE CHARGING SPREADSHEET ! ! !
The council car park at Alice Springs has two 3 phase outlets, as well as the two accommodation sites below.
ACCOMMODATION
Look at plugshare.com for where you want to charge and work your way through the journey.

The Big 4 MacDonnell ranges Holiday park has two 3 phase outlets.
