Vic - Impromptu Lunch 8/9/19
Got some time tomorrow?
We've decided to have an impromptu lunch at Fook Shing Restaurant in Kyneton. Newly opened this is quickly becoming a local favourite.
Fook Shing is named after the infamous Chinese Detective who was posted to this region during Victoria’s Gold Rush. The policeman originally based in Melbourne’s Chinatown was the go to plain clothes detective for any issues related to Chinese in Victoria. “Send Fook Shing” was a regular message from Victoria’s Police Commissioner. Originally operated as a temperance hotel (accommodation, no grog), Fook Shing has seen many changes in its life after originally hosting coaches and their crew on the gold route. It is also believed that Fook Shing himself stayed at the Pub during his time visiting the goldfields.
Proprietors Justin and Martine Forrester have taken over what was known as either the Piper Street hotel or 'The Bottom Pub'.
They have brought a modern and vibrant south east Asian inspired menu designed for sharing. The Pub has been subtly themed and has a number of dining and drinking spaces including open fires and outdoor spaces for the sunnier days! With 6 beers and local cider on tap, an interesting wine list with lots by the glass and a few fun cocktails there is something to suit everyone. And yes they have Carlton Draught on tap which sits right beside Tiger Beer, Fook Bier and Hoegaarden.
True to its namesake Fook Shing’s likeness is captured from early drawings by local artist Amber McLindin and can be seen inside the pub’s entry foyer.
