TOCA ACT Whale Watching Adventure - Eden
08th September 2025
By Kate Hetherington
TOCA ACT had a whale of a time, commencing early Saturday 6th September 2025, departing Canberra and the usual stop at Cooma chargers for a cuppa and light breakfast. We then headed towards Eden, stopping at beautiful Nethercote Falls for a picnic lunch and bushwalk. The road in was challenging for the lower M3s, so this was noted for our next trip out this way.
Everyone enjoyed dinner at Hotel Australasia, a beautiful 1904 restored building. We stayed overnight at Heritage Hotel where the owner had installed a charging point. The front building of the Heritage Hotel was constructed in 1903, and it served several roles over the years including a general store, a grocer, boat building workshop, doctor's surgery and cafe before being restored and now acting as the reception and tourist information centre of the hotel.

The main event was the Sapphire Coast Whale Watching Experience, and the mammals certainly did not disappoint!
We edged our way out to pods of feeding whales, some of whom seemed to be curious about the catamaran we were aboard, coming right up to the boat to have a look at us. At times we were completely surrounded by common dolphins, humpback and Bryde's whales, and a variety of sea birds.
On our journey home on Sunday 7th September 2025, we stopped at Oaklands Cafe and Brewery at Pamula where live music played and there was again, plenty to see and do in the cafe, brewery, chocolate factory, nursery and gift shop.
We look forward to our next adventure with the TOCA ACT crew.
