Welcome to Zoofari @ Taronga Western Plains Zoo
18 Teslas made the trip over to Taronga Western Plains Zoo, coming from ACT, NSW & VIC. We filled the carpark with zero emissions and a gorgeous selection of S3X.
The trip was jam packed, after check in we took our first look at our rooms and the gorgeous residents in our front yard. The savannah was a large open plain with giraffes, zebras, rhinos and more.
Our rooms were glamping to the next level, with a large deck, fully equipped bathroom with soaking tub. But most of all you could lounge on the king size bed and watch a giraffe walk by.
After check in, we enjoyed cocktail hour and then the first of our spectacular events, feeding a giraffe. We were each given 2 pieces of carrots and our magical moment to feed a giraffe.
There are 7 male giraffes that live together at the zoo, each day it’s up to the giraffes who comes over for some carrots but the smartest and best looking of them all Kindu comes every day to enjoy his visitors (and carrots).
Feeding a giraffe is an epic experience and was enjoyed by all.
Next we sat down to a delicious South African inspired dinner that left you dreaming of Africa. Incredible lamb, barramundi and a duck salad that meant you couldn’t stop yourself going back for more.
It was truly a feast to be enjoyed by all. This was followed by a dessert plate to make your mouth water with Zimbabwe chocolate cake and salted caramel panna cotta.
After we had eaten so much, so very much. We headed out on our night tour. Our expert zookeepers guiding us through the zoo at night so we could see Hippos, Bongos and a black Rhino. It was hard to get photos at night, the evening tour was definitely one for the memory books.
Heading back to our rooms for a goodnights sleep, when we woke in the morning Dubbo was putting on a show for us with one of the most epic sunrises I have ever seen, throw in some giraffes and zebras and we were in for a treat that we will never forget.
This was the view from my room at 6:45am, as a giraffe slowly walked across the savannah.
The sunrise just kept improving
And more animals appeared
It was hard to leave our rooms but we had our morning tour to enjoy.
Again with our expert zookeepers as guides, we started with the limas who enjoyed an early morning snack of carrots
Next we saw an incredible white rhino, much bigger than the rhinos outside our rooms, this big boy is Umfana, he is being prepared to move to his new home at another zoo. He was incredible to see.
This was followed up by what was voted by my family as the most amazing thing to see and that was an elephant having a bath.
These gorgeous creatures get a bath by zookeepers every day. It was incredible to be so close to these Asian elephants. These two boys Pathi and Sabai are not even full size yet and will one day stand about 3m tall and weigh 5.5 ton.
Our final stop was to visit a beautiful old girl, Halla the cheetah. Even at her ripe old age of 12 (that’s old for a cheetah) she could still beat any of our teslas off the line.
We were then back at the guest house for breakfast made to order, pancakes, eggs, oatmeal and of course coffee.
We had an incredible stay at the zoo. The event was enjoyed by all who came.
The Tesla Owners Club of Australia would like to thank Taronga Western Plains Zoo for having us and we look forward to running another event there in the future.
