On Sunday 15 January 2023, TOCA ACT welcomed 2023 with a Big Day Out barbecue lunch at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, followed by a sanctuary walk to see all of our native critters in their natural environment.

While rain clouds threatened the day in the morning, nothing deterred our TOCA families from enjoying themselves.  While the clouds did not open up and spoil the event, they did cool things down resulting in a pleasant day with eventual clear skies.  Goes to show that you can never predict the weather.  We had picked a spot at Tidbinbilla with a large gazebo so we were prepared for rain (that never came).

Meeting at the Gordon IGA shops on the southside of Canberra, the TOCA team of five Teslas departed at 11.15 am and drove the short 15 minutes via Point Hut Road to the glorious Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.  Another Tesla joined us at the picnic ground.

At the barbecue site, everyone relaxed and enjoyed both their meals and company while the kids played in the incredible playground.  Some of the adults had to be told the playground did have an upper age limit!!

Afterwards, a leisurely stroll around the sanctuary lake with much wildlife spotted, including a variety of birds, the Eastern Long-necked Turtle feeding underwater around some rocks, rock wallabies, and colourful spiders spinning their webs.  The track followed a trickling stream shaded by native Eucalyptus trees provided shade from the hot sun.

A lovely day out.
