Snowy Hydro Now, Bushrangers in the Past

TOCA ACT visited the Snowy Hydro to experience through an interactive theatre the construction of this Engineering marvel of yesteryear as well as the future. A step back into the days of the Bushrangers at The Snowy Mountains Travellers Rest was the finishing touch for the day.

TOCA ACT had an amazing day out on their Clean Energy Drive to the Snowy Hydro Electricity Scheme.  We had a huge showing of 14 cars and 25 people.  I am sure people driving from Cooma to Canberra thought they were seeing in multiples as Tesla after Tesla passed them in convoy.

Blues, whites, Grey and a Brown were the colours of the day.  No Reds!

We all met at a carpark on Greenway and started up the Monaro Highway in convoy.  Tesla after Tesla cruised up the highway towards Cooma.

Our first stop was the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre at Cooma, and we experienced two theatres - one of the history and construction of the Snowy Hydro with some amazing photographs, and then a short 10 minute flyover of the Snowy scheme in the interactive theatre.

Stephanie from Snowy Hydro gave us a guided tour and answered the many questions from the group.  After a coffee at their Cafe, we all travelled to The Snowy Mountains Travellers Rest south of Cooma.

Now the restaurant is an old 1800s building with a bar, complete with a trap door that was used to hide bushrangers in the old days when the Troopers would come into the pub looking for them.  After the Troopers departed, the wanted men would rise up from the basement and continue drinking their ales!

Back to the 21 century and sitting beside crackling fireplaces with a wine or beer, we gobbled down the delicious food prepared for us.  They opened the venue especially for TOCA, and our 14 Teslas that nearly filled the car park attracted some passersby who stopped for a lunch and drink!!

A lovely day had by all.  That next event is just too far away!!
